The four-year project has been designed to leverage clean energy to enhance peace and resilience with a special focus on empowering women.

According to the county government, the Spread Strengthening, Peace, Resilience, and Disaster Reduction Project was implemented through collaborated efforts by the county government, DanChurch Aid Kenya (DCA), Turkana Pastoralist Development Organisation (TUPADO), the project Arteta Kibish, Turkana North, and the Lokichoggio sub-counties.

She stressed the importance of empowering women groups and benchmarking to help them learn from successful energy initiatives in other countries.

The chief officer highlighted how equipping them with necessary skills to generate income from the project.

Geoffrey Eregae, the county deputy director for Energy, Petroleum, and Mineral Resources, explained the need to provide improved cookstoves in off-grid areas and installation of solar-powered streetlights in border regions to enhance security and support peacebuilding.

Irene Kibon, the team lead of the DCA Kenya organisation, also noted that proper street lighting would not only improve security but will also promote peace and cross-border trade.

She expressed the organisation's commitment to partner with the county to achieve sustainable development for the marginalised community through the clean energy project.
